I visited a number of places under renovation as part of the rebuilding
in various parts of Havana. This huge pharmacy building was lovingly
being worked on by Cuban carpenters. Others have been finished and are
in use
again. It bares repeating, that prior to the revolution in 1959, Havana
had centuries of slums and neglect and the priority after the Revolution
was to provide replacement housing for the majority
who
were
often
living in shacks in the countryside.
True, in the past, the Mafia built fancy hotels and the rich built some
huge homes, but now pride, revenue needs and international support are
rebuilding
both
historic and ordinary dwellings.
