14th Annual Prayer Vigil for the Earth will be held from Sept 15 - 17,
2006 at the Washington Monument in Washington DC
Dear Prayer Vigil Family and New Friends,
We had our meeting with the National Parks Service on June 21st and we were told that we can DEFINITELY have the Washington Monument site back for the September 16 & 17, 2006 Prayer Vigil. Please tell others you know the good news. Thanks. And, we need your help more than ever. Youth we need you.
The challenging news is that there are many, many new regulations, such as no vehicles on the grass, no stakes in the ground, no parking nearby, no dropping off elders, etc. They have changed the traffic requirements because of fear of car bombs and they are putting in sprinkler systems so they don't want any stakes in the ground.
We've have accepted these difficulties and taken the site---Spiritually it is coming home and energetically it moves all our hearts. So many people have called us to say how important this seems, although it is often hard to articulate why. Many of our Elders have written us recently to encourage us to continue in spite of the difficulties.
For all out of towners - Please consider coming to DC Thursday, September
14 because we are going to have much more labor to do on Friday. Putting up the Vigil Peace Village on Friday will require as many as hands as possible. We will get hand trucks for carting, cinder blocks and tons of rope and duct tape for erecting structures, use more shuttle vans, and, if possible, walk to the site if we can find the right hotel. We need your creative ideas. Meanwhile, welcome home to all of us; welcome home to hope. Welcome home all participants and volunteers and guests.
In addition to all of this, our hotel called to say that they believe their renovations will not be done in time for us to stay there, so they are searching for another hotel. We will search also. Having talked it over, we still decided to 'go for the return', find another hotel, and create as best we can. We have, after all, lived through 9/11 and
2 hurricanes. These challenges are logistical and, if the return is as important as our hearts tell us, it is something we are called to do. We will be having a planning meeting on Sunday July 2nd at 2:00pm in Reston VA. For those who would like to attend, just respond to oneprayer4@aol.com and we will send you details.
Come help us. We rejoice in your presence-a presence that plants a spiritual seed not only for our souls, but also for the soul of the future. May the culture of peace find a home in our multi-faith, multigenerational efforts. May peace prevail on Earth. And may the Unity week of peace (Sept 11 - 17) and the International Day of Peace, (Sept 21) also be served by your/our intent. Blessings, Sharon Franquemont The Circle
PS: We ask that all of you assist in getting the word out by putting the following Calendar listing is whatever publications you are affiliated with. By law, companies are required to hold open jobs of those called into the service, but nothing more. Usually, people take a big pay cut & lose benefits as a result of being called up...Sears is voluntarily paying the difference in salaries & maintaining all benefits, including ! medical insurance & bonus programs, for all called up reservist employees for up to two years. We should support Sears.
