Dear Coalition for Universal Health Care Members:

The Coalition for Universal Health Care would greatly appreciate it if you would help us publicize the below-referenced citizens’ forum through your e-mail lists, web sites and/or phone trees.  A flyer (in Microsoft Word) is also attached.

We believe the forum will be useful to those who are not aware of the universal health care movement in Maryland as well as to those who have attended a previous forum.  Vincent DeMarco will update us on the status of the Maryland Citizens’ Health Initiative.

Thanks for your help, and I hope to see you at the forum!

Happy Holidays,

Vanessa Duffy

The Coalition for Universal Health Care and the Maryland Citizens’ Health Initiative invite you to a Citizens’ Forum on:

“How We Can Achieve Universal  Health Care Coverage In Maryland”

Thursday, December 7, 2000

7 to 9 PM

Montgomery County Executive Office Building Auditorium

101 Monroe Street, Rockville, MD

˝   block north of Route 28

Speakers will include:

Blair Ewing, Montgomery County Councilman

Vincent DeMarco, Executive Director,

Maryland Citizens’ Health Initiative

Managed care firms often refuse to pay for necessary treatment.

More than 600,000 Marylanders have no health insurance at all.

Health insurance premiums and prescription drug costs are rising.

Most Maryland HMOs are dropping their elderly patients.

Other states are passing innovative laws to address these problems.

Now we have an opportunity to make Maryland a leader.

Come hear about the universal health care movement in Maryland and what you

can do to help.

Also hear about health care issues in Maryland from elected officials and

community activists.  What have we been doing well and what do we need to

improve upon?  What legislation might be introduced next year?
