Immediate Campaigns
The Campus Action Network has launched a website. See: http://www.antiwarnetwork.org. Get in touch with campus antiwar groups in your area. Info on local and national antiwar mobilizations. Day-X (the day after the war starts) actions. Anti-war resources. The Campus Antiwar Network is a grassroots bottom-up
organization of campus-based antiwar groups from over 100 colleges, high schools, and universities nationwide. CAN stands firmly opposed to the coming war against Iraq and the racist crackdown on civil liberties here at home. Furthermore, CAN calls for an end to the U.N. sanctions - which have led to the deaths of millions of innocent Iraqis over the past decade - and demands money for education, jobs, and health care – not war. Antiwarnetwork.org includes an extensive set of  web links to anti-war and progressive sites. CAN asks that your site also links to ours - we offer reciprocal links for sites
that do so. Contact Warren Craig - 512-659-6915 wgc212@yahoo.com.

Baghdad Civilian Camera Project. We already know that corporate media is already eating out of the hands of the US military. News folks will be protected by our servicemen and women and will bond with them and tell their heroic and high-risk stories. We will get great geometric graphics of maps and weapons systems. And our focus will be brought to crucial military targets that still need taken out through football
strategy diagrams. Or the lead story will will be about find Waldo = Saddam in this picture or one of his generals or weapon’s systems. The media will buy the arguments for morale, for being patriotic, for not horrifying the public who have friends or relatives overseas. This will be a whitewash 10 times worse than the first Gulf War. We also know that the Iraqi government will want to paint a different picture. Their pictures will be as distorted as the Corporate News—but will be discredited immediately as "enemy
propaganda". How about the people in the middle--the civilians’ stories? If we immediately fundraise for both digital and disposable cameras to be sent to civilians in Iraq, then: We can get Iraqi-Americans to send cameras to friends and relatives – to civilians that they have a trusting relationships with. We can then get pictures essays and stories from civilians – a day in the life right now—what it’s like to live now under sanctions. If the bombing/atrocities start we will get first hand images from the civilians – How the "shock and awe" will impact the women and children, the elderly, and the infrastructure of communities. Also, hundreds of disposable cameras distributed around the city could lend a measure of protection or insurance for civilians against rapes, massacres, forced marches, tortures, theft of food supplies, and could help in relocating lost children and reuniting families. And could give people who have never had it, a chance to take pictures of loved ones. We will develop and support internet uploading locations (hospitals, schools, mosques) and negotiate a hands-off policy with the Iraqi government. First wave: 100 digital cameras @ $70.00 = $7,000. 500 disposable cameras at $15 = $7,500. Postage $15 X 600 = $9,000. Packaging donated by sender families. Total $ 23,500. Black Arm Bands. On the day the bombs start falling on Iraq, we – everyone who opposes this war – could begin wearing black arm bands. Critics of the war will be told they have a duty to shut up once the firing starts; arm bands will act as a silent but very visible witness to our mourning. Mourning for our soldiers who will die or return wounded. Mourning for the innocent Iraqi men, women and children who will be blown apart. Mourning for the freedom that will be lost here. Mourning for America. Rallies and marches don't happen every day, and can be avoided by the people who most need to see and hear them. Imagine the impact if just 1 percent – or 10 or 25 percent! – of the population wore black arm bands to work and to school and to the malls every day. And if the war or its messy aftermath drags on for a long time, the number of "arm banders" will swell. Without sign waving, without shouting, we thus will serve as a constant and enlarging reproach to the warmongers and their destruction. Contact: SyzygyRules@netscape.net.

STOP THE NEW "PATRIOT ACT II". The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has drafted an 86-page bill, which seeks to give the Federal government new, sweeping powers to increase domestic intelligence gathering, surveillance and law enforcement prerogatives while decreasing judicial review and public
access to information as a way to fight domestic terrorism. The draft bill, known officially as the "Domestic Security Enhancement Act of 2003," has not been publicly released by the Department of Justice. However, DOJ personnel are currently briefing Congressional staff about this matter. The new draft bill would essentially broaden the powers already provided to the Department of Justice under the post 9-11 "USA Patriot Act" that gave the government unprecedented powers that intrude on our civil liberties. If adopted, the proposed bill would directly threaten our civil liberties and basic constitutional rights by removing important checks on government surveillance authority, reduce the accountability of government to the public by increasing government secrecy, further undermine fundamental constitutional rights of Americans under an already overbroad definition of "terrorism," and seriously erode the right of all persons to due process of law. Among the most concerning provisions contemplated by the Department of Justice is the ability of the Federal government to strip even native-born Americans of all of the rights of U.S. citizenship, allowing them to be indefinitely imprisoned in their own country as undocumented aliens. For a section-by-section analysis of the draft bill, visit the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) website at:
http://www.aclu.org/SafeandFree/SafeandFree.cfm?ID=11835&c=206. To view a copy of the Department of Justice's proposal visit http://www.dailyrotten.com/source-docs/patriot2draft.html. Write to your members of Congress and ask them to reject the Department of Justice's draft legislative proposal that threatens our constitutional rights under the guise of combating terrorism.  Send a letter via email to your two Senators and one Representative by visiting www.naaa-adc.org.

DAY OF GLOBAL DIVESTMENT. Create "shock and awe" in the market by a day of stock divestment in the worst military and oil compaines. Replace it with ALTERNATIVE DIRECT INVESTMENT, in developing countries. The Interfaith Religious Communities and Churches have substantial diversified "BALANCED " low risk investment portfolios which should contain these types of stocks/bonds or are in mutual funds they are vested in. Inquire about the National Office of the ASFC or the NCC's Fund Managements investment strategy for example. To follow up on the idea of pledge of funds out of military/bad oil companies and into the "fence sitting" UN countries if they hold firm and other socially responsible investing. PROTEST COURT MARTIAL TRIALS OF ISRAELI REFUSERS. Jonathan Ben-Artzi ("Yoni" to friends and family) is a 20 year-old young Israeli who will soon become the first Israeli conscientious objector in three decades to be tried before a military tribunal. There he faces a sentence of up to three years in prison for refusing to serve. Over the past eight months, he has been repeatedly sent to jail by military commanders, who punish him based on disciplinary charges. Yoni's trial has great significance for the entire refusal movement in Israel. According to his lawyer, Michael Sfard: "This trial is very important for the force of conscience in the Israeli legal system. If we win this trial it means the Israeli legal system has allowed respect to the human conscience." The converse means another blow will be struck against Israeli democracy and Jewish values. Yoni and his fellow refusers need your immediate help. See:
http://www.refusersolidarity.net/default.asp?content=courtmartials. It is extremely important the Government of Israel understand that many people around the world are aware of -- and opposed to -- its actions against refusers. Emails are useful, but faxes and phone calls have far more impact. Please call or fax His Excellency Ambassador of the State of Israel, Mr. Daniel Ayalon, Tel: (202) 364-5590 Tel: (202)
364-5578 Fax: (202) 364-5560 with this simple message: The Israeli army's repeated jailing of conscientious objectors and its plans to court martial Yoni ben Artzi and his friends, are a violation of international law and human rights conventions. We deplore your brutal handling of these courageous young men. Instead of throwing them in jail you should heed their message: "End the Occupation Now." Add your name to the over 1,200 people who publicly express their support for Israeli military refusers. Join the Refuser Solidarity Network at http://www.refusersolidarity.net.

"Grading Iraqi Compliance". Source: Linda Gerber, Karl Shelly, Alistair Millar, David Cortright, and
George A. Lopez. The Fourth Freedom Forum and the Joan B. Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame have released a new report assessing Iraqi compliance measures on the eve of Hans Blix's presentation to the Security Council on the status of UN weapons inspections. The study
demonstrates that Iraqi cooperation with UN weapons inspections has been considerable. If inspections are able to continue in the months ahead, it is likely that they will be able to assure Iraq's effective disarmament. The study includes a chart listing twelve specific steps toward compliance by the Iraqi regime in recent months while also identifying continuing areas of inadequate compliance. The study also includes a scorecard that lists the mandates of Resolution 1441 and evaluates Iraq's degree of compliance with those specific mandates. The scorecard shows one area of noncompliance, five areas of partial compliance, and eight areas of full compliance with UN mandates.A copy of the report is available at
