Interim Disability Assistance (IDA)
for D.C. Residents with Disabilities
Update December 4, 2000
************************************

* IDA FINAL VOTE STILL TOMORROW (12/5) -- NEW TIME IS 12:30 P.M. *

Thank you to everyone supporting the effort to create an Interim
Disability Assistance (IDA) program to help D.C. residents who are
waiting to get permanent federal disability benefits.

Tomorrow (Tuesday, Dec. 5), the D.C. Council will take its second and
final vote on IDA. This is the final step in approval of Bill 13-550.

Although the Council session is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m., we
have just learned that it is very unlikely that the Council will meet
before noon or that IDA will be voted on any earlier. For this reason,
we are telling IDA supporters who wish to attend the final vote to plan
to arrive at 12:30 p.m.

Please be aware that the D.C. Council's schedule often changes. If you
want to get more information about the status of the legislative session
before you go there, you can call Chairperson Cropp's office at
724-8032. Her staff can tell you if the Council is meeting yet or not
(or if they've taken a break for lunch).
