Report from IAC delegation just back from Yugoslavia

A delegation from the International Action Center (IAC) was recently invited to a symposium in Novi Sad, Yugoslavia to hear reports from international legal scholars on war crimes committed by NATO during the 78 days of bombing.

The symposium was also attended by Yugoslav and Serbian government officials, and representatives from the Assembly (parliament) of Vojvodina, the province where Novi Sad is located. The delegation was able to observe the damage caused by NATO bombs in both Novi Sad and Belgrade, including the Chinese Embassy, and talk with a broad range of people. They were also able to attend an opposition rally and get an assessment of its strengths and weaknesses.

The IAC is organizing an international series of Commissions of Inquiry to expose the criminal nature of the NATO bombing campaign, and mobilize public opinion against deliberate attacks on civilians and the civilian infrastructure. A hearing featuring former U.S. attorney general Ramsey Clark is set for November 20th in Washington at Marie Reed Learning Center in Adams Morgan. The report back will address the following:

* Environmental destruction in Yugoslavia
* Effects of the bombing on the children of Yugoslavia
* Destruction of the industrial infrastructure and the state of reconstruction
* Outlook for the harsh Balkan winter.
* State of the opposition to the Yugoslav government Plus photographs, physical evidence, and discussion.
